Design and installation of shade sails for the TAFE Queensland campus on Thursday Island in the Torres Strait. This remote project required specialist logistics to deliver quality shade solutions to one of Australia's most northerly educational facilities.
Thursday Island is accessible only by air or sea, requiring all materials, equipment, and personnel to be transported via barge. The extreme tropical climate and remote location demanded materials resistant to salt air corrosion and intense UV exposure.
Sail Structures drew on decades of remote community project experience to plan logistics meticulously. Marine-grade hardware and UV-stabilised fabrics were selected for maximum longevity. The installation was completed within a tight schedule during a school break period.
