An award-winning tensile membrane installation for the Watkins Martin Munro Conservatory in partnership with Cairns Regional Council. The project involved designing and installing architectural shade structures to enhance growing conditions for light-sensitive plants while providing UV protection for visitors.
The conservatory required a structure that would filter sunlight to protect delicate plant species while maintaining an open, airy aesthetic. The design needed to withstand tropical weather conditions including high winds and heavy rainfall.
Sail Structures designed a series of tensile membrane canopies using high-quality UV-stabilised fabrics. The structures were engineered to provide optimal light filtration while allowing airflow, creating an ideal microclimate for the conservatory's botanical collection.
